LCP: What will the Governements new surplus rules mean for your DB scheme?

On 29 May the government published its response to the Options for DB Schemes consultation, laying out their policy intentions for DB surplus as they seek to boost investment and benefit scheme members. TPR is also due to publish new endgame guidance for DB schemes shortly.

June 9, 2025

These developments reflect the growing choice and innovation in the endgame market, creating new opportunities for trustees and sponsors who actively take ownership of their endgame strategy - including those considering running on their DB scheme for longer.

Join LCP experts, former Pensions Minister Steve Webb, former TPR Strategy Director David Fairs, Steve Hodder and Jill Ampleford as they discuss what this all means for you and your DB scheme strategy.

This webinar covers:

  • An overview of the government’s new policy and TPR’s guidance.
  • What the government hopes this policy will achieve, and the benefits it could bring to scheme members and sponsors.
  • Examples of new strategies DB schemes can employ under the new rules.
  • How new policy might be implemented, and possible timescales.

Who should watch?

This webinar will be of interest to DB Corporate Sponsors, DB Trustees, DB Pension Managers and anyone else interested in DB pension schemes.
